Day 1: The Biking Begins

The drive to the coast was more difficult than the first day's ride on the coast. On the way over the gang was met with torrential rain, an accident on Hwy 152 that had traffic backed up for miles, and the Highway Patrol paced traffic at 45 MPH up near the San Luis Reservoir.

Jeff and Linda Bryant shuttled riders to Santa Cruz and tried to avoid the accident on 152 coming home. They attempted to cross the valley through Coalinga but were stopped by an inch and a half of hail! So they made their way back to 152 and camped out at Casa de Fruita for awhile.

Though our fearless bike riders were delayed by the rain, once they actually got on the road they had a great drive with only a couple patches of light mist.

Shauna Weathers texted me this message at the end of the day:

"We rode 20.8 miles and the weather was perfect. Everyone is ready for dinner and it smells great!"

Tracy left me a bachelor this week. She and Michael (9) and Daniel (5) are camping in Brett Mar's RV and travel with the group. Tracy is cooking all of the meals. Saturday night the gang was served a delicious spaghetti and meatball dinner. Everyone was hungry and the spaghetti never tasted better!

Shauna sent these pictures from the first day via cell phone camera.
