Day 5, Wednesday

The highlight of today's ride was seeing the elephant seals just north of San Simeon and Hearst Castle. With over 7,000 seals in this one colony they are hard to miss. Bikers ride right beside the beach as the seals lay around in the warm sun. Check this website out for more information if you are interested: http://www.hearstcastle.com/visitors_center/elephant_seals.asp.

Team NFC saw clear weather and sunny skies today, but strong winds and cold temperatures. After making camp at San Simeon State Park the gang trekked across the highway to the beach. No one stayed very long - it was cold and windy!

The riding was smooth and there were no accidents or injuries. There were, however, some of the toughest hills of the tour. These are affectionately known as the "coastal rollers."

Some of the best news today - showers in the campground. Woo-hoo!

It's the last night for a campfire and that means the last night for Smores. Just a half day of riding on Thursday and then it's time to head home.

Thank you very much Tim for keeping this blog. It's good to hear what's going on during the trip instead of waiting for Kristina to try to describe it once she gets home! This whole bike trip was such a great idea!
